iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane
May 13, 2024 at 1:30 PM Post #5,896 of 5,910
Well... I am sorry, but you said this already in january
We are aware of this and again Apologies for the delay. The process of new firmware has been a bit of a struggle, (not only for us) and changes after the original announcement of Tidal's plan to do FLAC only has changed many times since it was announced.

Even after this process is complete there still may be Albums on Tidal that only play higher res in MQA, so we need to be mindful of everyone's needs and wants.

Again we appreciate the patience but I can assure you without saying when that we are closer than we have ever been to implementing this.

Cheers!!

It in theory should not create a different sound, but sometimes software optimization can lead to a better sounding experience.
I get how good hardware like good usb and coaxial outputs and more importantly a good power supply can benefit sound quality

but how can a streamer alter sound with software optimizations? It doesn't do any conversions just transport the digital file to the dac

others say that when in digital domain nothing matters so a streamer is the same as an old pc or anything else...but my experience was that zen stream was a big upgrade over a regular usb output of a pc.

I was musing about perhaps "how well" the unit runs with optimizations of its process could possibly result in some added benefit.

I used to hear that discussion all the time that the streamer can't influence the sound "as it's just" transporting bits, but after I got my Zen stream I just sort of tuned those arguments out. Don't get me wrong, they make sense but I (as you) know I am hearing something better.

I stopped "sort of" listening to arguments about numbers and measurements a long time ago, now I just enjoy my music and buy what I "think" sounds good to me.

Cheers!!

I had real and clear differences from the laptop (as a source) to the zen dac

also from the micro idsd to the zen dac signature

I also don't believe that ''digital is digital no matter what''

implementation must play a big role even among digital sources.

Cheers

Apparently they are bugging the update too 😂
Hopefully the update is coming....
Yes after the fix of renaming 2.32.9 and uploading something became corrupted, they are working on re-uploading as I was last told, I will update as soon as I know and chances are it will come in overnight for me, so you all may know first.

In terms of the Tidal MAX update it is coming, (it's in beta right now) on the other streamer, so it is closer.

On the off chance that folks are resetting just to see if a new version is there, resetting does nothing, the new version is either there or it isn't. No amount of resets will make it appear, and long ago the beta's became password-protected for exactly that reason.

Good news soon just hang on, I know it's been a while...

Cheers!!

Hi there! How is this device disconnected from the mains? Pressing the shutdown button does nothing. Where is this described in the instructions?
hold the shutdown button down for about three seconds, or hold the button until the lights flash and then the Zen will turn off.

Thanks for the answer! But isn’t this method of shutdown similar to a hard shutdown? And how useful is this for the device?
@Sandro Sena is correct here!

Simply hold the power button for a few seconds to "power off" the Zen Stream. This method is often used to avoid accidental shutdowns by accidentally pushing the power button on many different forms of electronic devices.

Hope this helps...

Cheers!!

You can also shutdown the device from the zen stream page on the browser or the mobile app

I would recommend doing that because physical pressing the button will degrade it's life span
Good idea as well! I will admit I have never used that particular option, no particular reason, must be my age showing...

Cheers!!
