UPDATE: recently tried a pair of Rad 0's planars 29 ohms, at the other end of the impedance spectrum vs the 300 Ohm ZMF VC's...I prefer the Balanced with the Halo implementation over the SE. Yup amazing here to me. Very nice, musical open sounding...great pairing for low impedance cans for sure. With the impedance curve for planars being more linear vs non-planars you might notice changes in sound presentation with non-planars with HALO tm vs the non HALO tm SE port.

This thing looks great. I love the way the single-ended and 4-pin balanced connectors are differentiated. I like being able to use separate DACs for each. I love that the power is the same high output on both connectors. I love the price. I need this thing in my life, man.

This is tempting as I think Schiit has the best sounding gear around for the money. Among other pieces, I've got an Asgard 3 with the ES9028 card, but the DAC card is unused since my source has its own DAC which I prefer. Dollar-wise, I'd probably come out about even if I sold the Asgard and moved to the Midgard, and I do like experimenting with new toys. However, the only drawback I see, according to their web site FAQ, is the fact that the Midgard doesn't shut off the preamp out when headphones are plugged in. I also use the Asgard as a preamp for my Gjallarhorn with a pair of speakers, so the Midgard's failure to shut off the preamp outputs when headphones are used is a minor drawback. (The Asgard shuts off the pre-outs when headphones are plugged in.)

So, something to think about. We'll see how it works out.

I use my Midgard with my powered studio monitors as well as my headphones. I learned about the always on preamp "feature" but decided to go for it anyway. So far it hasn't been so bad, I just turn off and on my speakers when not in use. Thinking about grabbing a pair of smart outlets with a remote to make it even easier. If anything its just very minor inconvenience. If I had my choice I would have liked to see a switch on the front that would change between the TRS/XLR out and the preamp out like the Jot 2 has.

I enjoyed this review. It kept my interest. I think this would be an excellent amplifier for users who are (a) trying to reduce the number of components in one's nook, (b) a first-time, designated amplifier for people who want a headphone amplifier, and/or (c) a user like me who desires a smoother volume knobs (potentiometer) than Schiit's Magni units (I have both the Heretic & Magni 2). If my existing little Magnis ever konk out, Midgard would be a dandy replacement!

The new Magni, Midgard, Mjolnir are really cutting edge sounding models. Jotenheim and Lyr3+ will need similar improvements in 2 years--or sooner. Mike has hinted that "if all goes well" 2024 could see some new products that are going to "rock the industry". Can't wait for whatever that is?

Magni Unity is a new updated amp. Lyr 3+ is also a relatively new amp. Jot 2 is a tad older.
Watch Jasons videos on Youtube or Fbook....many hints as to what is in store.
Vahalla 3 for instance...

I bit the bullet and ordered a Midgard yesterday which they shipped today, so hope to have it here in a few days. Will report back with my impressions.
