And if you are getting clipping at around 3V, and it is not caused from your next device in the chain. Then probably time to replace the 18650 batteries in your Hugo2. That seems how it went for me. I can use Line-out mode with no problem now.

I've been using this as my desktop amp w/ my Gustard a22 DAC. I turn the PB5 off when not in use, and I haven't found a shift of sound with warm up. After turning it on for a session, I just unplug & replug the charging-cable.

Yeah, PB5 only made to work with usb-A to usb-C cables. Not USB-C to USB-C. I unplug it and replug it quickly before I start using it so it charges as its in use. I never have had it turn off on me during a normal sitting.
