I like that! Less busy, fewer markings, and easier to re-set to a particular previous volume level.

My vote is: - black color, more likely to match other equipment in the chain. Never liked how Riviera AIC-10 (for example) never matches anything. - I like the dot marking around the volume knob (don't mind the other way though) - white mark on the knob so you can see the volume level more...

Yes, lower impedance phone jacks work well with iems, and with a dark background. I think iem use is one of the reasons they used a 4.4mm jack instead of a 4 pin XLR for balanced output.
