    RAAL 1995 Immanis

I'm intrigued by this question, so I quickly tested it using my SP3000. I played a pop song through the 4.4mm output connected to Caldera and Immanis via a Silver Dragon 4.4mm-to-XLR4 adapter cable. With Caldera it required a setting of 50 to reach my satisfied volume while Immanis required 80...

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis

Poor recordings here refer to some pop music that sounds flat or has muffled instruments in the background that you can hear but unclear (probably due to poor mixing?). The D8000 Pro, for example, is able to make such poor recordings more consumable but the Immanis does not have such...

RAAL 1995 headphones, Magna and Immanis

A few months back, I saw Alex's latest creation, the RAAL 1995 Immanis, and I knew I had to have them. As a big fan of ribbon drivers (including my SR1a and ProAc D2R which I use as near field monitors), I took the plunge without an audition. The Immanis are undeniably gorgeous...

    Stax SR-X9000

The demo pair when I had audition in Oct 2021 has serial 1101. So I guess STAX uses 4 digits and starts from 1000 or something.

ZMF Caldera - New Planar Magnetic from ZMF!

I received my stabilized Caldera earlier this week. This is my 5th pair of ZMF headphones. (2nd stabilized) I also have VO, VC, AO, AC in my stable. As you can see I'm very fond of ZMF house sound so I knew I had to get a Caldera but I also wanted to have a unique pair. I waited patiently (it...

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

Is there any difference between using XLR input or RCA input to HM1? Some amps emphasize their fully balanced design and recommend using XLR input. Is HM1 one of them? HM1 owners do you have preference using one over the other?

    Stax SR-X9000

I use the long cable and tried the short cable once out of curiosity. I did feel there's a sonic difference however the short cable sounded a bit harsh so I went back to the long one. Maybe the cable needs some run-in, will give it another try during the holidays.

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!

That's right, I demoed with the stock leather pads. Also agree it's hard to judge on an unfamiliar chain, it could be due to DAVE or the amp. The brightness is only a bit more than D8000 Pro so not a big concern to me.

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!

3.5mm TRS connector works. I brought a Moon-audio silver dragon cable made for Sony Z1R (which can also be used with D8000 Pro and Hifiman 3.5mm headphones) and it worked well with YH-5000SE. The key point is don't use a locking 3.5mm connector so it can be inserted correctly.

I like the D8000 Pro on a tube amp. My chain: Auralic Aries G2.1 (source) to Esoteric K-03XD (dac) to Woo WA33 (amp)

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!

I didn't feel the bass was lacking when listening through the HA300mk2, but I think I had to use a familiar chain to do a meaningful comparison. One thing I forgot to mention is they told me the demo pair sounded awful when it just arrived. It became better and better after some run-in. It was...

Yamaha YH-5000SE — a flagship from an orthodynamic headphones veteran!

I would say yes. The YH-5000SE is brighter and the treble of violin is actually a tad more aggressive than D8000 Pro. But that's what I prefer and one of the reason I placed the order immediately.
